Career Summary

Alison graduated from the University of Strathclyde with an Honours degree in Politics and Modern History. After working in the museums sector she did a Postgraduate Diploma in Urban Development which led to the awarding of a PhD scholarship to research the rise of tourism as a catalyst for urban regeneration in Glasgow.

After gaining some tutoring experience in the Department of Environmental Planning Alison took up a full time lecturing post in leisure and tourism management at the University of Gloucestershire for a year before joining the Department of Business Studies at the University of Queensland as lecturer in Leisure and Tourism Management. She then joined the Management Studies Department of York St John University as senior lecturer where she was promoted to Head of Programme for Leisure and Tourism Management. In 2006 she joined the School of Management at UTas.

Tourism students' motivations & satisfactions with tourism management programmes.


Research Interests

Alison’s research interests include tourism as a means of urban and rural regeneration particularly through the development of tourism attractions. Tourism in Higher Education is another research interest. Doctoral candidates seeking supervision in any of the above research areas are encouraged to contact her.

Teaching

Alison’s teaching interests lie mainly in the area of tourism impacts and planning. In addition, she has supervised a large number of Honours students to successful completion and co-supervised one PhD student in backpacker tourism.
