C3E Bachelor of Economics
The Bachelor of Economics
is an exciting and challenging degree
that provides graduates with a
valuable and marketable set of skills.
Through the study of economic
principles and practices students will
develop an understanding of
economics as a ‘way of thinking’, as
well as the insight and expertise to
understand the role and impact of
economics in our lives and society.
Students will gain a sound knowledge
of the issues and factors that
determine how economic systems are
organised and how decisions are
made by individuals, firms and
governments based on human
behaviour, beliefs, structure,
constraints and needs.
The degree introduces students to the
complexities of economic practices
and strategies and ensures graduates
have the statistical and analytical skills
required by employers to understand
business reports, investigate
economic issues in a scientific way
and to communicate information in an
effective manner. Graduates are
equipped to work on important social
and economic policy challenges faced
by business and government, and
have the skills and confidence to
contribute to decision-making and the
development of solutions which
ensure the well-being of society.
The Bachelor of Economics degree is
also an excellent foundation for those
students wishing to proceed to
postgraduate studies.
Career Opportunities
Economists are highly skilled
professionals capable of informed
discussion and decision-making in any
area of enquiry. They may undertake
research and analysis, provide
forecasts to governments, business,
financial and international policy
organisations, evaluate investment
proposals for organisations in both
public and private sectors and act in
advisory roles to key groups in
government or industry. It is the
intellectual tool-kit provided by the
study of economics that distinguishes
economists from other career
professionals. The application of
structured thinking, rigorous techniques
and a focused imagination opens up
many career opportunities for students of
economics in both specialised economic
environments and broader business
activity. Some of these options include:
