In recent years, the desire by governments to increase export activity has focused attention on born global firms. Also known as instant internationals, these firms are founded with the specific intention of operating in international markets, either concurrently with or ahead of establishing a domestic market presence. This project is focused upon the unique challenges that these small, young firms face in internationalising and roles of private sector and government partners in addressing them

Business History: The Bougainville Copper Mine

Changes in the meaning of consumption in the 20th century

The 20th century has been unparalleled in the shifts which have occurred in both the availability of consumer goods, and the expectations that consumers have regarding their relationship with the consumption of these goods. This research is aimed at exploring the meaning of consumption (e.g. conspicuous consumption) to individuals, how this may vary according to consumer age cohort, and how this may have changed over the last century in Australia.

Corporate museums as branding devices

Corporate museums form part of the modern business and tourism landscape. Some, like the Wells Fargo History Museum in San Franscisco, are part of a national consciousness, and some, like the Guinness museum in Dublin, are tourist icons in their own right. But is a corporate museum a ‘real’ museum? Or is the value added to the brand by having a corporate museum the only reason for their existence?
