Unit Detail

HAB232 Aboriginal Women

This unit provides students with an understanding of the roles, functions and status of women in past and present Aboriginal societies from Aboriginal perspectives. It considers the influence of colonisation in shaping both western and Aboriginal perceptions of Indigenous women's gender relations. Particular areas of study include the nexus of feminism and racism, Aboriginal women as the holders of knowledge and power, and contemporary social issues facing Aboriginal women.
