Riawunna has a long history of community based research projects including Aboriginal cultural awareness and heritage management, oral histories of Cape Barren Island and shell necklace (Maireener) making. One of these projects culminated in 2002 in the publication of 'My Past - Their Future' by Aunty Molly Mallett (Blubberhead Press, Hobart.)
