Tasmanian Buddhist Studies in India Program An Academic Exchange Between the University of Tasmania and the Tibetan Universities in India The Tasmanian Buddhist Studies in India Program provides a unique opportunity for interchange between Australian students and scholars and their Tibetan counterparts, and for the study of the Indo-Tibetan Buddhist tradition by Australian students with representatives of that living tradition. It enables Tibetan scholars to visit the Australian university system, and the University of Tasmania in particular as colleagues and as teachers; for Tibetan students to study in Australia, and for our own students and those of other universities to study at the Tibetan universities in exile in India. There are no other programs in this country that provide access to Tibetan scholars or regular opportunities for students to study abroad at Tibetan universities.
Students and staff with HH Dalai Lama 2008/09 Each group of students is accompanied by two or three staff members from The University of Tasmaniaand/or other cooperating institutions who oversee the Australian students' programme and teach Western subjects to the students of The Central University of Tibetan Studies. These staff members will be chosen jointly by the Tibetan and Australian administrators of the program, with attention to the curricular needs of The Central University of Tibetan Studies and to the availability and interest of Australian staff. The TBSIEP organises all travel, accomodation and other essential arrangements in India, and round-trip travel from Hobart to and from Sarnath for all students travelling from Tasmania. Any student enrolled in a university who has completed the first year is eligible. For further information, contact Brownwyn Peters, Executive Assistant.
