Shan Deng won the Best Australian Pianist prize at the 2000 Seventh Sydney International Piano Competition. She was a semi-finalist in the 1996 Unisa Transnet International Piano Competition in South Africa. Shan was the national keyboard winner of the ABC Young Performer of the year awards in 1994.


Research Interests

In 1994, Shan was the national keyboard winner of the ABC Young Performer of the year awards and in 1999 she was the Queensland winner of the Arts Division and a National finalist in the Young Australian of the Year Award. Other awards include a Churchill Fellowship which allowed her to study in South Africa, a Brisbane City Council Fellowship, and a Florance Davey Scholarship from the University of Queensland. She has been featured in numerous Australian, Chinese and South African radio and television programs.

Teaching

In 2000, Shan Deng joined the Conservatorium at University of Tasmania as associate lecturer in piano. She has given Masterclasses for Tasmanian Music Teachers Association, Carins Music Society and the First Summer Piano Institute at Victoria University School of Music in New Zealand. Studying with Leah Horwitz, she obtained her B.mus degree at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University with first class honours and a university medal in 1997.
