Elizabeth joined the School of History and Classics in 2001. She teaches the history of Europe in the early Middle Ages (300-1000AD) and High Middle Ages (1000-1300AD).
Research Interests
Elizabeth’s research interests focus on medieval Christianity, especially the monastic history of the High Middle Ages. Her research specialty is the Cistercian monastic order (both monks and nuns), with attention to Cistercian spirituality and broader interactions with society, especially in England and France. She has published a book on Cistercian chronicles and is currently completing a book on the histories of Cistercian nuns in England between the twelfth and sixteenth centuries. She enjoys working in the area of medieval studies because the field is so broad – 1000 years and all of Europe to investigate!
