Bachelor of Arts 2007: Majors ・Asian Studies and Ancient Civilisations
Honours 2008: Asian Studies
After spending 7 years in the United Kingdom working as a Training and Development Manager for a UK charity, Jo returned to Tasmania in search of new challenges. She commenced study at the University of Tasmania in 2005 with the intention to complete a Bachelor of Arts before going on to study for a Bachelor of Teaching. The second part of this intention has since been sidelined! Majoring in Asian Studies, as part of her Bachelor of Arts, Jo slowly became drawn into the School of Asian Languages and Studies・net.
Over the past few years Jo's interest in Asia has grown, particularly through extensive travel in the region. Studying units relating to Asia increased her understanding and interest in the region and fuelled a passion to continue studying in the field. Suddenly, instead of heading off to the Faculty of Education to become a primary school teacher, Jo found herself completing Honours in Asian Studies, assisted by a scholarship received by the School.
Jo is now a recipient of a Graduate Research Scholarship and is enrolled in a graduate research degree (PhD). Combining her interests in travel and Asia, Jo's area of research is volunteer tourism and development in Asia, with a particular focus on whether a relationship exists between the two.
Jo is also Tutor for the Asian Studies unit, Volunteering in Asia.
