Dr Mark Harrison is Senior Lecturer and Head of Chinese in the School
of Asian Languages and Studies, teaching Chinese language and studies.
Career Summary
Following several years in China and Taiwan, he completed his PhD at
Monash University, and from 2002 to 2008 worked as Research Fellow and
Lecturer at the Centre for the Study of Democracy at the University of
Westminster in London, UK.
Research Interests
He is the author of "Legitimacy, Meaning and Knowledge in the Making
of Taiwanese Identity", published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2006 and co- editor of "The Margins of Becoming: Identity and Culture in Taiwan
(Harrassowitz Verlag, 2007). His research interests include questions
of representation, identity and epistemology in the Chinese contexts.
As well as on-going work on the news media representation of China,
his current research project is entitled "Visions of the Future in the
Chinese speaking World", which covers the representation of China's
futures in architecture, Chinese sci-fi literature, Singapore and
other sites of discourse.
