Government funding for Asian language teaching and learning project

UTAS has won $500,000 funding for its project 'New pathways for the teaching and learning of Chinese, Indonesian and Japanese in Tasmania'. The project has a dual focus:

  • To increase student participation in Chinese, Indonesian and Japanese language programs, particularly in the senior secondary and tertiary sectors;
  • To provide postgraduate programs for Asian language teachers, and to support professional development of existing teachers.

The project will be delivered flexibly, including provision of online and in-country learning opportunities in coalition with partner schools in Tasmania and universities in Asia. The project will develop Asian languages excellence in Tasmania and strengthen networks between the University of Tasmania, Tasmanian schools, local Asian communities and businesses, and partner universities in Asia.
