Exhausted troupe after the pageant
Japanese Senior Lecturer Taka Ueki-Sabine lead twenty students and lecturers from UTAS, together with around 60 Japanese language teachers and students from St. Mary College, Friends’ School, Mt. Carmel College, Ogilvie High School, Fahan School and Blackmans Bay Primary School, dancing Minato Gunbu (Group Dance at the Harbour) a folk dance from Yaizu City in Japan. In the schools the students were taught Minato Gunbu by their Japanese assistant teachers who are recruited in Japan through the Japanese Assistant Training Scheme (JATS), organized by the School of Asian Languages and Studies every year.
This year is the 30th anniversary of Hobart-Yaizu Sister City affiliation and to commemorate it the dance troupe was joined by a dance group led by Lady Mayoress Tomoto at Yaizu.
